Chess in equilibrium
A new kind of chess puzzle: can you find the one position where every piece is in perfect balance? Place every piece onto the board so that each one threatens exactly two pieces, and is threatened by exactly two. Pieces attack just as they do in chess. Sounds simple, until you play.
- From tiny 3×3 boards up to the full 8×8 chessboard.
- Hints that teach the next step instead of handing you the answer.
- Every puzzle has exactly one solution, reachable by reasoning alone.
- Plays offline. No account, no ads.
About the name
In the 1830s Charles Babbage designed the Analytical Engine, the first general-purpose computer, built from columns of brass figure wheels. Ada Lovelace saw that such an engine could work on more than numbers: on any ideas whose relations could be expressed as rules. A good puzzle is exactly that, a handful of rules and the pleasure of following them to the one answer they allow.
